About French Cidres:
French ciders, particularly from regions like Bretagne and Normandie, are traditionally crafted using specific cider apple varieties, offering a more complex flavor profile. These ciders tend to be drier, with a natural balance of sweetness, bitterness, and acidity, often showcasing earthy, floral, or even slightly funky notes due to natural fermentation. French ciders are typically lower in alcohol and are enjoyed with food, much like wine.
In contrast, American ciders often focus on sweeter, more fruit-forward flavors, with a broader variety of apple types used. They tend to be clearer and crisper, with a higher alcohol content in many cases. While some American ciders lean toward dry styles, many are sweet and carbonated, making them more akin to sparkling beverages or casual refreshments.
